Ruby's a little on the late side for transitioning from baby food to finger food. She just loves her pureed stuff. But I have been painstakingly working on the transition for about a month now. For a couple weeks the only thing she'd eat by herself was bananas and crackers. But now she's ventured into a handful of other things: kiwi, prunes, pears, pasta (sometimes), cheese sticks, zucchini and yams (sometimes). So I need advice. What else should I try. Obviously it needs to be something she can eat easily without too many teeth. Any ideas?
Oh and any advice on transitioning to a sippy cup will be helpful too! I've kind of given up on that for now.

Have you tried blending steak? Put some medium-well tri-tip in your blender and hit "liquify" until it's smooth.
:)
Billy, I knew you'd make some comment like that. No, I have not (nor will I) blend steak. But truthfully I have pureed chicken on a number of occasions and fed it to Ruby - she likes it.
hey! i saw your blog on carly's. your little girl is adorable. my oldest, josh didn't have teeth till he was 13 months so i had this dilemma. peas, corn, soft carrots, green beans, hot dogs, quesadillas, white rice with melted cheese, mac n cheese, and i am sure i could think of lots more, but i went blank. the sippy cup just takes time. if that's all you offer her at meals then she'll eventually catch on. my boys have always took to the gerber ones better than others. =)
the sippy cups with the soft top are similar to a bottle nipple so its familiar. other than that, it just takes time, for both the food and the sippy cup. They're so used to us doing everything for them, that doing things for themselves can be quite an adjustment sometimes. But it sounds like your doing a good job, experimenting with different foods. Here's a suggestion though: try mixing it with yogurt. Most babies love yogurt and it kinda masks the overpowering flavor of new foods. You can mix fruit or vegetables in it and they'll still eat it. I used/use Stoneyfield Organic French Vanilla. Its sooo good, it has the cream on the top (whole milk) We still eat it!
Thanks all for the advice! We'll keep working on it and hopefully in a few months I'll be able to say that Ruby is a champion eater/sippy cup drinker. :)
Hi Julie this is Stephanie. I saw your blog and thought I would comment since we are about in the same boat I think Ruby is 2 1/2 weeks younger than Morgan. I finally got Morgan switched to a sippy cup at 11 months. I had to buy like 5 different types of sippy cups and she will only drink from ONE! Its the Nuby brand it has a clear "sippy" part. Morgan was the same way with pacifiers...I bought about 4 different brands before she finally took to the cheap ones. I have the same trouble trying to think of good healthy foods she can eat.. Morgan has becoome VERY picky not liking the textures of most fruits and veggies in her mouth. I have to still smash them up even though she has 8 teeth.. so teeth doesn't always mean she will eat everthing :)
Julie...Check it out... http://www.gerber.com/Products/ProductLine_Detail.aspx?PLineId=9a8d2981-4e8c-48f7-ad4d-c5c5a3b1902b&PCatId=9772c526-b81c-45a2-80c7-dd7893122bea (the link is long, but it's worth it!) It takes you to Gerber.com, these are begginer foods! I used them with the boys. They are great, puffs that melt in the baby's mouth, "wheels" for gripping in a hand an chewing on, they are all for begginer eaters (with or with out teeth). They are all naturally flavored like fruits and veggies, and are natural snacks! They are AWSOME. I used these things and multigrain cheeios for the boys as they learned to eat. YES cheerios work well! They break up and "melt" really easily for them.
